A project to support aspiring entrepreneurs who want to connect ideas for solving Jeju society's problems to business models will be launched. The '2018 Klang Challenge' startup competition briefing session will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the 14th at Mondtak Processing Plant in Jeju Social Economy Support Center (former Sangrok Hall). A comprehensive explanation of the Klang Challenge, including the business purpose, schedule, and registration method, will be provided. Those wishing to participate can register on the Link Jeju Social Economy Hub homepage (www.jejuhub.org). The Klang Challenge is a social venture incubation program for those considering not just ideas for solving community problems but also their commercialization. The first batch of selected teams will receive expert consultation and specialized startup education from 'Underdogs,' a social venture specialist incubator. The final selected teams will receive 15 million won in startup support funds and consulting per team, and if desired, can be connected to the Ministry of Employment and Labor's social entrepreneur development project. Applications will be accepted from the 21st to the 31st. On the 4th of next month, ideas selected in the first round will be made public online, and from the 15th, citizens can freely participate and refine ideas together. Teams selected in the first round will also receive social venture startup training. After the final review on July 14th, 'Klang Fellows' will be selected. Last year's Klang Challenge selected three teams as Klang Fellows: 'Next Spring,' a bookstore promoting community education activities for children in rural areas; 'Siot Bookstore,' an independent bookstore planning to create Jeju citizen goods through the 'City Widely Open Project'; and 'Kongshimcae,' which aims to create sustainable Jeju farming villages by selling subtropical agricultural products produced by multicultural families. The Klang Challenge is part of the 2018 Klang Project hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and organized by Jeju Social Economy Support Center and Social Economy Network.
