In 'This Week's Public Interest News Briefing,' we curate and introduce weekly support projects, job openings, recruitment announcements, and event news from the third sector. 01. KT Group Hope Sharing Foundation Recruiting Participants for 'Social Change Maker Contest' (6/25~6/27) The KT Group Hope Sharing Foundation is recruiting startups and social economy organizations (prospective social enterprises, social ventures, social cooperatives) to participate in the 'Social Change Maker' contest until June 27. Application fields are divided into three categories: ▲Technology ▲Society ▲Community. The 'Community' field particularly requires applicants to be engaged in ▲Interior design/small-scale construction (preference given to those located in Nangok and Nanhyang, Gwanak-gu, Seoul), ▲Woodworking, or ▲Capable of operating a home repair school education program. The total prize pool is 150 million won, with additional subsidies provided to teams with excellent performance at the final presentation. Additionally, expert mentoring and education in startup support, investment, and marketing from Seoul Creative Economy Innovation Center will be provided, along with the opportunity to occupy incubating and collaborative spaces within the center from September 2018 to February 2019 (extending up to 2 years in 6-month units; incubating space support is limited to award-winning teams in the technology field). Gwanghwamun 1st Street Fifth Open Communication Forum 'Government and Private Sector Roles for Activating Social Innovation Ecosystem, and Proposals' Held (6/27) From 2 PM to 5 PM on June 27, the fifth Open Communication Forum of Gwanghwamun 1st Street will be held at the Seoul Metropolitan Government Building Annex in Seoul under the theme 'Government and Private Sector Roles for Activating Social Innovation Ecosystem, and Proposals.' This forum was organized to explore the government's role and approach for social innovation and to identify roles for government and private sectors in activating the social innovation ecosystem. Presenterswill include Lee Jae-ho, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Public Administration, and Jung Sun-ae, Director of Seoul NPO Support Center. Senior Research Fellow Lee Jae-ho will present a new government model under the theme 'Future Government, Government's Future: Social Innovation Ecosystem and New Governance,' explaining the government's role and principles for social innovation. Director Jung Sun-ae will present under the theme 'Government Tasks for Activating Social Innovation Ecosystem,' reviewing government policies and projects related to social innovation over the past year and discussing government and private sector roles and tasks for activating the social innovation ecosystem. Following the presentations, Kim Jung-heon (CEO of Underdogs), Choi Kyung-hee (Co-CEO of Tutoring), Kim Woo (Director of Sungmisan Good Day Cooperative), Cha Hwa-suk (CEO of Able Ceramist Association), Won Yong-suk (Senior Technology Officer at Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute), Hwang Se-won (Lab Director of LAB2050), and Jung Seo-hwa (Doctor at Korea Institute of Public Administration) will propose ideas for social innovation. Social Economy Activation Support Center X WebWatch Accepting Applications for '2018 Social Enterprise Employee Children Scholarship Support Project' (~7/6) The Association for Social Economy Activation Support Center is implementing a scholarship support project for children of social enterprise employees, sponsored by IT social enterprise 'WebWatch Co., Ltd.' Applicants must be workers with at least 2 years of service at social enterprises (based on continuous work at the same workplace) who have high school-aged children. 1 million won per social enterprise employee will be provided. Required documents include ▲Scholarship support application ▲Motivation letter (free format) ▲One copy of employment certificate with work experience ▲Documentation of child's high school enrollment (enrollment certificate, student ID copy, etc.) ▲One copy of family relationship certificate ▲Preferential consideration for low-income households, people with disabilities, North Korean defectors, multicultural families, single-parent/grandparent-headed households, and multi-child families (3 or more) with supporting documents ▲One copy of personal information consent form, etc. Applicants can submit documents by July 6 via email (knse2011@hanmail.net) or mail (3rd Floor, Korea YMCA National Federation, 68 Jandari-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, Social Economy Activation Support Center). Korea Guide Star Holding '2018 Public Benefit Organization Value Enhancement Idea Contest' (~7/20) The Korea Guide Star Foundation is holding a public benefit organization value enhancement idea contest using 'Donorvigator' to promote donation culture and expand public interest and participation in donations. Donorvigator is a solution that analyzes the financial and general status of public benefit organizations based on data from settlement documents disclosed by public benefit organizations to the National Tax Service, which donors can use as a donation guide. The contest theme is research using Donorvigator or ideas to enhance the value of public benefit organizations (examples: ways for public benefit organizations to gain trust, suggestions for improving public benefit organization policies, etc.). All citizens can participate, and prizes include 1 million won for the grand prize (1 team), 500,000 won each for excellence awards (2 teams), 200,000 won each for merit awards (10 teams), and 50,000 won each for encouragement awards (20 teams).
